History of the Church

Oldfield Free Church had its first meetings on 1st March 1936 at Greenford House. Sunday School was held in the afternoon - 27 attended and at the evening service there were 80 people. Greenford House was only a temporary venue and it was demolished on 11th May to be replaced by a "temporary" wooden hall on 4th July. The hall was continually used for 38 years. When the wooden hall had come to the end of its life a new brick-built hall was constructed and opened.

In June 1961 the present dual purpose church building was opened. Again another "temporary" hall was built called The John Heaton Hall and was opened in April 1975 and gave us valuable service for 24 years.

Not only have buildings been put up but also God's Church here has prospered under His guidance and we trust that it will continue to do so.
